OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are a fast-paced, highly motivated team of individuals, looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator to join our growing team. The EHS Coordinator is responsible for inspecting and evaluating the environment, equipment, and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. Their chief goal is to protect the employees, customers, and the environment. They identify potential chemical and mechanical hazards They recommend changes to protect workers and educate employees on how to prevent health problems through the use of safety training programs. They also investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comprehend and be up to date with all applicable Ontario Legislation, OHSA, WSIB, and company policies with regards to Environmental health and safety in the workplace and be able to update all relevant parties when changes in legislation are made. Also able to take action independently to ensure compliance in the workplace.
  • Develop and maintain DCL’s Hazard ID, risk assessments, and EHS KPI’s to present to management.
  • Chair the JHSC which includes being responsible for scheduling the monthly meetings, coordinating committee members to complete monthly inspections, submitting meeting minutes and inspections to upper management, and ensuring minutes and inspections are posted on the safety boards.
  • Working in partnership with supervisors and workers to ensure they maintain compliance with applicable EHS legislation and making yourself available to address concerns of all supervisors and workers.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement implementing proactive EHS initiatives to keep the workplace compliant with Ontario legislation to help prevent incidents from occurring in the workplace. This can also include issuing preventative and corrective actions.
  • Work in partnership with our environmental consultant and assist in gathering annual data so required environmental reporting is completed within reporting deadlines.
  • Responsible for all internal and external EHS related training. Ensure the training matrix and employee training records are up to date to know who needs training and when it expires, compliant to ISO 14001 standards. Develop and administer internal training. Organize and schedule external training.
  • Handle all WSIB related claims, including: submitting forms, contacting workers and case managers, and being in charge of return to work.
  • Responsible for accident and near miss investigations. This includes: filling out the accident investigation form, keeping track of near miss incidents, and ensuring the first aid book is filled out.
  • Ensure on-site safety items are in compliance and functional. Ensuring first aid kits are compliant with first aid regulation 1101, AED’s are functional, eyewash station liquid is effective, etc.
  • Point of contact with Ontario government inspectors including Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Environment.
  • Work in partnership with Maintenance Department to ensure various quarterly, semi-annual, and annual preventative maintenance checks are completed on equipment within the plants. Conduct fire drills periodically and coordinate with the Fire Dept. and alarm company.
  • Work in partnership with the Maintenance Department to ensure safety related repairs are addressed and scheduled in the Manager Plus computer program.
  • Be a point of contact to ensure miscellaneous items are taken care of, including: waste disposal, uniform delivery, janitorial services, issuing access cards, safety shoes entitlement, and more.
  • Other tasks assigned by the Operations Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, legislative requirements relating to OHSA, CSA, WSIA, and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Strong knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and WSIB.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels are essential.
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and management skills.
  • Project management experience is considered an asset.
  • Good knowledge of environmental systems (spill control, MSDS, TDG, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and QS-9000 procedures.
  • Proficient with a personal computer and related software, i.e. Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

EDUCATION

  • Post Secondary Education, with Occupational Health and Safety accreditation (certificate, diploma) or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years Environmental Health & Safety experience in a manufacturing setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
  • Salary:  $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
